As the saying goes, to love and be loved is one of life's greatest treasures. It feels so good to be able to cherish someone and do selfless acts for them. But how can a person love another when they do not know how to love themselves? It is just as important to love one's self as it is to love another.

Loving yourself is not egotistical, nor is it selfish. It is necessary. Loving yourself can have many meanings. It can mean that you know yourself, your goals and aspirations and that you work toward them. It can mean that you learn to say "no" when you simply cannot field another person's request for time or resources.

It can mean that you take time out of your day to focus on yourself, relax, and think. What sense does it make to love others and put them ahead of you if you burn yourself out while doing it? Also, how can you expect to really help others if you have spent so much time on others that you have not kept things in order in your own life?

Before you can seriously love someone else by affecting them positively, you have to do what it takes to put yourself in a position to emotionally, financially, and spiritually help others.

Another way to look at loving yourself is in the area of relationships. If a person loves him or herself, they will make sure that they dress presentably, speak confidently, and bring goals to the table.

This person is confident because they are comfortable with his- or herself as they are. They love their life with all of its mistakes and faults, and they are happy. How can another person accept you, your mistakes and faults if you yourself do not? If you value yourself with love then others will be able to as well.

Loving yourself is an essential part of being successful in life. People who love themselves do what is necessary to be happy and fulfill all of their responsibilities so that they can effectively help others. They are confident in themselves and by themselves, because they define their own wealth instead of depending on someone else to.

They keep their bodies healthy and in shape, and ensure their own safety. They have a strong sense of spirituality that helps them to love themselves. All of these descriptions depict the ideal, self-loving person. This person has their own life in order, so he or she can effectively affect another's. Loving yourself is just one step on the road to success and the road to service.

Parents often tell kids that to get what they really want to have to work hard. But is this the best way? Does working hard make you always get what you want? This is true for the most part but sometimes it is not true. So parents should not always tell kids that they will get what they want by working hard. They shouldn't answer the question of how to get what you really want. Instead, parents should tell kids that if they work hard, they should feel good about themselves. Also, if they work hard and they don't get what they were working for, they should just be happy about the work they did.

The problem with telling kids that they will always get what they want if they work hard is that sometimes they may not get it. The Olympics are on right now and you see many athletes that have worked their entire lives for one opportunity to get a medal. But, there are only three medals to give out and in each competition there are many more people than there are medals. So, lots of people have worked hard but lots of people won't get to stand on that podium and received a medal. But, does this make their work any less great or impressive? Absolutely not! The work that all of these Olympic athletes put in is still amazing. The dedication to the sport and the ability to get to the Olympics is a fantastic achievement. Therefore, we should all feel proud about how hard they worked.

But, what if they thought that just because they worked hard they would get what they dreamed about? Then they would be very disappointed if they didn't get the medal. So, hopefully they didn't grow up with the idea that if they work really hard they would absolutely achieve the things that they desired. Hopefully, they learned that if they work hard they would feel really good about themselves at the end of the day. It is those athletes that we admire more than the ones that sit on the sidelines and pout when they don't achieve their goal. This is why I love watching the Olympics. Because most of those athletes have that type of spirit and are proud of their own achievements regardless of what medal or lack of medal they get. I still remember the time when I saw Michelle Kwan missed out on getting the gold medal for the second time in her career. Afterwards she was so gracious, and talked about how she was so happy to have achieved so much. She showed us what a winner is and how winners react in every situation.

So, if you are teaching your kids about working hard and getting what you want, try to teach them about the spirit of working hard. This will allow them to enjoy their achievements a lot more than believing that they won't always get what you want.

The ultimate expression of life is not a paycheck. The ultimate expression of life is not a Mercedes. The ultimate expression of life is not a million dollars or a bank account or a home. Here's the ultimate expression of life in my opinion, and that is living the good life. Here's what we must ask constantly, "What for me would be a good life?" And you have to keep going over and over the list. A list including areas such as spirituality, economics, health, relationships and recreation. What would constitute a good life? I've got a short list.

1) Number one, productivity. You won't be happy if you don't produce. The game of life is not rest. We must rest, but only long enough to gather strength to get back to productivity. What's the reason for the seasons and the seeds, the soil and the sunshine, the rain and the miracle of life? It's to see what you can do with it. To try your hand, other people have tried their hand; here's what they did. You try your hand to see what you can do. So part of life is productivity.

2) Next are good friends. Friendship is probably the greatest support system in the world. Don't deny yourself the time to develop this support system. Nothing can match it. It's extraordinary in its benefit. Friends are those wonderful people who know all about you and still like you. A few years ago I lost one of my dearest friends. He died at age 53 - heart attack. David is gone, but he was one of my very special friends. I used to say of David that if I was stuck in a foreign jail somewhere accused unduly and if they would allow me one phone call, I would call David. Why? He would come and get me. That's a friend. Somebody who would come and get you. Now we've all got casual friends. And if you called them they would say, "Hey, if you get back, call me we'll have a party." So you've got to have both, real friends and casual friends.

3) Next on the list of a good life is your culture. Your language, your music, the ceremonies, the traditions, the dress. All of that is so vitally important that you must keep it alive. In fact it is the uniqueness of all of us that when blended together brings vitality, energy, power, influence, uniqueness and rightness to the world.

4) Next is your spirituality. It helps to form the foundation of the family that builds the nation. And make sure you study, practice and teach. Don't be careless about the spiritual part of your nature, it's what makes us who we are, different from animals, dogs, cats, birds and mice. Spirituality.

The mental attitude or the mindset you have can affect the outcome of just about everything you do. With even more certainty it can be said that the amount of effort you put into anything is in proportion to the mindset you bring to the task. As they say attitude is everything and it can either make things easier for you or put them out of your reach. Being successful is closely tied to what your attitude may be at any given point in time.

These mindsets that have such a great influence over our lives can either result from personal experiences or from conditioning. In other words your attitude can either be developed from an experience or be a belief passed along to you at an early age.

Today we are going to look at 5 common beliefs/attitudes held by many that may inhibit their being successful in many aspects of their lives. The question here will be the legitimacy of the 'thought processes' we are reviewing.

Being Lucky

It is all too often people consider the good fortune of others as being the result of pure luck. What a copout! Often times you make your own luck by seeing opportunities and then taking action. By having the mindset that luck is something that randomly falls out of the sky many people put limits on themselves as to what they can accomplish. Attitude is everything concerning identifying any available opportunities.

Long Hours + Hard Work = Success

A commonly accepted 'notion' is to be successful you MUST invest many hours along with many years. Nothing could be further from the truth when you consider that long hours over many years would typically wear people out and/or make them discontented. Is this being successful? Not the way I see it.

Success is many things to many people. Spending more time with family or friends may be one person's idea of success even if it means just getting by. On the other hand it is not a mandatory requirement to invest hours and years to accumulate wealth. Countless instances demonstrate how 'average Joe's' have been financial successes by pursuing their dreams resulting in their financial good fortunes.

The point here is that these people did NOT allow some common notion such as 'long hours and many years' be the norm that dictated their life patterns. They overcame that mindset and instead pursued a dream and proved it could be possible to succeed and on their OWN terms.

Associating Displeasure with Work

Many or maybe even most regard work as a nasty four letter word. The common assumption is that work has to be drudgery and unappealing. Think about how well you perform in an environment that is boring or unappealing to you. Not very well I would assume mainly because your heart is not into to it and your attitude therefore does not allow you to be at your most productive.

Now consider more pleasurable surroundings that involve activities you may like. Your attitude and energy level are at their best and your attention span is very keen since you are focusing on something you like.

The point here is that the work you do for the money you earn does NOT have to be something you detest. It is possible to love what you do and not mind putting in the time to do it. In the end you most likely will perform much better and as a result be compensated even more.

Education

We have all been raised to believe that a good education leads to being successful. Now this is true however it is the way many 'interpret' education that may mislead us.

The most common interpretation here is usually a 'formal' education but that is not always the type of education that will lead to being successful. Life experiences are a great way to learn and their importance should not be overlooked. So do not let the lack of a formal education hold you back since it really is NOT a viable excuse!

Self Imposed Limitations

Many have grown to believe they can not achieve success due to a variety reasons. In fact it often seems they put more effort into producing reasons as to why the can not succeed than others may invest into becoming successful.

The only limitations we face in our lives are the ones we place upon ourselves. If you are not willing to remove some of these limitations and at least try than it would seem you are content with where you are at in life. If you are not than change it by changing your attitude.

The mental attitude you have has the ability to make life as easy or as hard as you want it to be. Whoever coined the phrase 'attitude is everything' was right on target. It is therefore important to identify whether our attitude or perceptions are justified or perhaps just old 'baggage' we inherited. The 5 belief we discussed above we chosen as examples because they are common to most everyone's lives. By recognizing that some of our beliefs are therefore not legitimate will help to empower us to change them and in doing so change the very course of our own lives as we live them.

Have you ever wondered how to even define purpose, much less how to find your life purpose? Well, my hope is that this article will help you do both.

There is two parts to Purpose: Being and Doing.

Being dictates who you are. It's your identity. Doing dictates what you've been called & designed to do.

So here is my definition of Purpose:

When you find a Role where you do what you love to do and use what you're great at doing to become a solution to problems that you feel called to fix. That's where you will find your purpose.

It's that one sweet spot where these 4 things intersect: Passions, Talents, Needs & Calling.

Passions:

Passions are the fuel for your life. When you are doing something you are passionate about it will wake you up in the morning quicker than a strong cup of the old Starbucks Coffee. When it comes to Purpose, your Passions answer the question "What" What should I be doing I my life to be satisfied?

Talents

Talents are those things you do easily that others with they could do like you. The funny thing is that when people say to you they wish they could do what you do, you laugh at them because it comes so easy to you; you figure everyone else can do it just as easily. The truth is, your talents are given specifically to you. To make a difference in this world! Talents answer the question "How" How can I make the greatest amount of change with the least amount of effort?

Needs

Needs are the third essential component in finding your life purpose. Why needs? You don't have Passions & Talents for nothing! You have the previous two things because you have been designed for a role where you will do what you love to do and use what you're great at doing to become a solution to problems! Needs answer the question "Where" Where will I make the greatest contribution in life? Purpose isn't just about you having a satisfying life. Purpose is actually about you serving, or contributing to the betterment of the world. So instead of being one of those people who just complain about problems. Become a problem solver! And how do you actually do this? Hint...hint....You only use your talents to become a solution to the problems you see. Again...your talents come easy to you. You perform nearly perfect every single time. So you use what comes easy to you to fix problems and since you're great at what you do. You'll fix these problems easy & fast!

Calling

Finally, there's Calling. Sometimes we can spend out whole life devoted to the wrong thing. I personally believe in a God who calls people to do great things with their lives. Calling is the last component because you pay attention to what God is calling you to devote your life to. Why? Because when you're working with him. It will all work out in the end!

How to Feel Happy Right Now

Living in happiness may be an art. Certainly it reflects a habitual way of living that keeps one thinking happy thoughts rather than unhappy thoughts. What you think about causes you to feel a certain way. Sometimes the thought comes first and sometimes the feeling comes first-sort of. To feel a certain way you decide to feel that way. That conscious or unconscious choice seems to happen automatically. If that is true then your thoughts come first. On the other hand, if that idea is not accurate then your feelings come first.

Does it matter which comes first? What matters is how you feel about you. What matters is whether or not you love you. Actually however you create your mood, you do so by habit. What? Where did that come from? You cannot give what you do not have, right? How can you love another person or thing until you love yourself first? You can't. Okay, then, how do you love yourself first? You decide to love yourself first. You choose to live in happiness. You just do it.

Smile. Think happy thoughts from your past. Yes there is a time and place to use and feed your past memories. Focus on the happy times of your life and the moments when you absolutely loved yourself first. Feed those memories energy to keep them alive. Make them big pictures you easily see and feel-and hear, taste and touch. The more senses you involve in re-creating the happy picture the more real those experiences become.

Oh yes, the most important part of living in happiness right now-smile. Sit up straight and walk with your head held high-. Move at a brisk pace and lift your feet with every step. Breath deeply and fully from your diaphragm to take in life in all its glory! To live in happiness you do it. Do not stop to think about how to do it. Just create a habit of doing the things I listed above. Pay attention to your breathing, your posture, your walk and your facial expressions all day long. Also pay attention to how you feel-happy or something else.

Create the habit of living in happiness. Keep up that routine for 28 days and watch your life change to one of happiness that you won't even have to think about. You will automatically do the behaviors and actions, and think the thoughts that keep you in happiness. Yes, even when tough times come into your life, you will use those tools to get through them.

You won't attract wealth by doing nothing, even though the idea sounds good it just won't happen. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. What does this mean if you want to attract abundance? It means that you will have to do something. The best way to do this is to think positively and try to adopt a positive win-win attitude. You will create a positive energy in and around yourself and this will attract people to you who seek out what you are looking for, abundance. Some of these people will have it, some won't. The point is that you are drastically changing the way you approach the world and putting into place a mindset that will create the abundance that you seek.
