Travelling to Europe This Winter?

Travelling to Europe This Winter?
By John Gray

Well it's that time of year and Wintersports are back on the television. For those who are too eager to watch and actually want to take part in snow sports, Europe has many great slopes to try out. Mobile Network 3 are taking the Wintersports season as an opportunity to remind us about international calling rates. The EU legislation in 2007 brought in a maximum calling cost for all calls from EU countries back to the United Kingdom, the cap means that the maximum charge for a call to the United Kingdom will be just 28 pence per minute and the maximum cost to receive a call while in the EU is 19 pence per minute.

While the other networks have lowered their rates, and are charging much less than in previous years, they have all pretty much stuck to the EU regulation cost and not really tried to beat it. 3 have got the lowest calling rates in the EU of all the UK and EU operators, meaning you can call home without worrying about getting a massive bill the following month.

3 charge just 25 pence to call the UK from a EU country and just 10 pence per minute to receive a call while in the EU - which is les than any of the other networks, and the specialist sim cards available online.

Whether you are on 3 or any of the other UK mobile networks please be sure to check with your network operator before you travel to be sure roaming is enabled - as this is not always enabled as standard on a lot of contract mobile phone accounts, and to check your call and text costs. It is still surprising how many mobile customers do not realise how much a quick call home can cost, and even more do not think that they will be charged for a friend or family member calling them to check if they have landed safely.

This and many other articles on mobile phones and the latest mobile phone deals was written by John Gray.

Things to Do On a Smokey Mountains Vacation

Things to Do On a Smokey Mountains Vacation
By Aaron Leslie

Nowhere in the country matches the magnificent natural beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains. Hundreds of miles of hiker trails, diverse wildlife, and unspoiled vistas make this one of the most relaxing and enriching sites in the world.

Just because you spend the day enjoying the wilderness doesn't mean you want to squat around a campfire and sleep in a tent. After a long day of hiking and enjoying nature, you might want a soak in the hot tub, play a game of pool, or watch a DVD. Smokey Mountain cabin rentals give you the perfect balance of access to nature and civilized amenities.

Breathtaking Scenery

Whether you are coming from a verdant rural area or a dense urban center where the only trees are planted in pots, you can find outdoor activities right for you.

Hiking is a popular choice. You can find trails from easy ambles over gentle ground to difficult multi-day adventures that challenge even the experienced and athletic hiker. You get up close to the local flora and fauna and see landscapes that you can't imagine.

If walking isn't your thing, there are many trails for horses or bikes as well as a variety of automobile tours. Stop at one of the many picnic areas or find an undiscovered spot and enjoy a meal in a field of wildflowers.

The area abounds with waterways. Try whitewater rafting or gently tube down the rivers and streams. Fishing enthusiasts from all over the country come here to catch trout, bass, and other fish in over 500 miles of fishable streams.

Luxurious Comfort

Many visitors to the area like the idea of roughing it, but that's not everyone's idea of vacation. After an exciting day out among nature, some people want to be pampered and many cabin rentals can provide that.

Large cabins let everyone claim their own space. No matter how close you are, everyone needs privacy and that's hard to find in the little one-room huts that pass for cabins in some places. Renting a cabin with several rooms and bathrooms lets everyone choose their own method of relaxation.

Not only do many cabins have simple bathtubs, many have in-room Jacuzzis and hot tubs. Or opt for access to clean and heated swimming pools and go for a luxurious and healthy dip. Other common amenities include laundry, full kitchens, and of course romantic fireplaces.

Endless Attractions

Although the Smokey Mountains plentiful with natural attractions, it has more than its share of man-made ones as well.

There are plenty of shops from local specialty shops to big outlet superstores. Restaurants cover every type of cuisine. Entertainment abounds and is more family-friendly than in many other popular travel destinations. There are cabin rentals in this region to cover every taste in vacation so treat yourself to a visit to this breathtaking area of the country on your next vacation.

Suggestions to Visitors to Shanghai

Suggestions to Visitors to Shanghai
By Unik Green

If you are going to visit Shanghai, here is some brief and useful suggestions:

1. Choose Pudong Airport to land at. All international flights arrive at Pudong Airport (PVG) only in Shanghai.

2. Choose a nice five star hotel that is in the center of Shanghai downtown, for example, JC Mandarin or JW Marriot. It is cheaper than the same standard hotels in other countries. To save money, you can stay at Youth Hotel for 40 RMB per night only but also enjoy the convenience of sleep at the heart of the city.

3. Visit the Huaihai Road. Unlike those roads in Hong Kong, the Huaihai Road is a strait road that you can go from the east to the west and all the big shopping malls line up on both sides. The only branch you need to go is the Xin Tian Di - to have a cup of wine there at night.

4. Spend half an hour at night on outside platform of the New Height Bar of Three on the Bund. It is the best view of the Bund and the Pudong skyscrapers you'll find.

5. Go to the Yu Yuan Garden. It may not be so attractive to local residents, but foreigners are always excited about the Chinese traditions on the market.

6. Go to the top of the Pearl TV Station before sun set and wait until the whole city was lit up. The view of Puxi from the tower is fabulous.

7. Try the Maglev when you depart the city. The 8-minute at top speed of 430 km will be the last but most impressive experience in this city.

Have you ever been to Shanghai? And what's your suggestions?

Staying Healthy on a Cruise

Staying Healthy on a Cruise

Staying Healthy on a Cruise
By Ken Bendor

One of the most popular activities during spring break is taking a cruise. For one price you get accommodations, fun, a tan and unlimited food. Now that spring break is here, you can finally show off that body you've worked so hard to perfect over the last few weeks. All you can eat buffets, drinking all night long and lack of exercise might leave that body begging you to stop. There are some ways you can be healthy and have fun all at the same time.

When you take your first cruise, you'll immediately notice that there's food all around. Some ships have multiple cafeterias and they're usually open around the clock. They'll serve breakfast, lunch and dinner at certain times and have pizza, sandwiches and desserts all day long. When meals are served, you can usually order as much food as you want. If you're hungry after your second, third or fourth plate, just ask for more. All this food can make for a tasty treat but you should try and at least limit yourself to some of the healthier options.

Whenever you're eating at a buffet, there are a few tricks you can use to eat less. Start off by grabbing a big plate and loading it up with anything from the salad bar. The vegetables will take up a lot of room in your stomach but won't add a lot of calories. Feel free to add salad dressing but be reasonable with the amount you add. Soups work good too. When you're done with your salad or soup, get a smaller plate and go for the main course.

You can use the same idea for dessert. Start with fruit and then go for the pies, brownies and cookies. You can also try frozen yogurt as a healthy alternative. Try staying away from drinking too much soda. It's made of mostly sugar and can add up to hundreds of calories at the end of the day without giving you any vitamins or minerals.

For fun, most ships have numerous bars and night clubs that cater to all sorts of different people. You can dance the night away at the club or karaoke to your favorite song at the bar. The common element at all of them is the free flow of alcohol. Abstaining from it is the healthiest way to go but also the most unlikely path you'll take. Instead, enjoy your drinks in a healthier manner.

If you're getting a mixed drink, use diet sodas. This can cut around 100 calories per drink which will probably add up to a lot by the end of the night. Try mixing your drinks with fruit juices which still contain some vitamins and minerals. Even this little nutrient content is much healthier than soda. You can also take shots which are a lot lower in calorie content but still have the same amount of alcohol. If you take shots to save on calories, make sure you don't end up drinking more since taking a shot is a lot easier than downing an entire drink. If money isn't an issue, wine is the healthiest choice. Its high in antioxidants which are actually healthy for you.

The lack of exercise combined with alcohol and all you can eat buffets can result in unwanted weight gain during a cruise. Luckily, most ships contain more than one area in which you can exercise in. You can go to a gym that has treadmills, bikes and free weights or you can play outdoor basketball, volleyball and golf. Most also have an outdoor track that goes around the perimeter of the ship making for a run like you've never experienced.

The whole point of a cruise is to have fun. There are ways you can eat and drink more than you usually do while still being relatively healthy. Bon Voyage!

If you're looking to make a difference in the way you look for spring break, you need to realize that change takes time but if you work hard you can make a difference in the way you look so that others will notice. The Guide to Getting a Perfect Spring Break Body has articles, FAQs, tips and tools to help you get a spring break body in a short period of time so you can show it off on your cruise, beach trip or at the pool.

Cruise Ship Trip Safety Basics

Cruise Ship Trip Safety Basics

Cruise Ship Trip Safety Basics
By Alex Stewart

Cruise vacations are a fun way to see many different exotic locations, involve the whole family and really relax and enjoy yourself. Unfortunately, there's also a dark side to cruise vacations.

To keep you and your family safe, keep reading for essential tips on cruise safety tips that will teach you how to stay healthy and secure while on board.

1. Always Be Aware

Generally, cruise ships are safe and secure contained environments. Because of this, we're more likely to let our guard down. But, just because the life is good and the weather is warm does not mean you shouldn't always be aware of others and your surroundings.

Particularly on large ships, don't traverse dark passageways, leave your drink alone or allow yourself to get in a situation that feels uncomfortable or wrong.

2. Use the Safe

Like hotels, all cruise ships will have an on-board safe. First, leave your expensive jewelry and designer watches at home. Second, use the safe to store passports and extra cash.

Most cruise ships have smaller, lightweight safes in the cabin that are fine for storing small electronics and tip cash, but they are easily picked or bypassed.

3. Watch Your Diet and Water

Typically, the food and water on a cruise shape is safe. However, when you're on-shore always drink bottled water and try to eat at clean, upscale restaurants. You don't want to ruin your beautiful cruise vacation with a bout of dysentery.

4. Be Careful with Alcohol

Booze can really flow on a cruise ship, particularly an all-inclusive sailing adventure. Remember, alcohol compromises your facilities and your judgment. You are not only surrounded by strangers, but you're also on-board a moving vessel that's traveling at 20 knots.

5. Set a Gambling Budget

Keep yourself and your wallet safe by setting a firm gambling budget, and remember that thieves cruise too. If you're ahead, cash your winnings occasionally and have them escorted to the ship's safe, and never - ever - carry large sums of money, winnings or not, around with you.

6. Be Aware of the Crew

Cruise lines carefully screen their employees, and cruise ship employees are hardworking and honest. However, you should always bear in mind that most cruise ship companies have a strict policy about not allowing crew members to interact with passengers outside their duties. If a crew member invites you back to their cabin, say no firmly but politely and report it to the cruise director.

Overall, cruise ships are safe. However, you should always be aware of the presence of others and your surroundings.

How to Choose a Cruise Line Vacation

How to Choose a Cruise Line Vacation

How to Choose a Cruise Line Vacation
By Alex Stewart

Cruises are a popular vacation choice for travelers of all ages - from families looking for adventure to couples seeking romance to single vacationers hoping to meet new people and explore the world. If you're planning an upcoming cruise vacation, there are few considerations you should take into account before selecting a cruise line.

There are hundreds of cruise lines operating and they range from dastardly to over-the-top luxurious. Keep reading to learn some of the basics you should look for in a cruise line. From target markets to ship amenities, the right cruise line is out there for you.

1. Know the Target Markets

Some cruise lines have specific target markets. For example, Disney Cruises cater to families with children while other cruise lines offer cruises that are specifically for couples, single adults or seniors.

By being aware of the target market for not only your cruise line but also your specific sailing, that will help to ensure you don't wind up booking your romantic honeymoon cruise on a Spring break party boat.

2. Read Customer Reviews

Before booking your next cruise, read traveler reviews online. You'll get great insight into what real travelers like you have to say about a ship, its staff, the amenities and the food.

If a review is over-the-top glowing or suspiciously poor, read another. Try to get a variety of opinions for a thorough and perhaps more balanced idea of the ship.

3. Take a Virtual Tour

Most cruise lines offer virtual tours of their ships. Prospective customers can view videos or photos of everything from the individual cabins to the dining halls to the swimming pools.

Look over a map layout of the cruise line's boats and try to get a feel for where your cabin would be, especially relative to busy public areas or noisy crew facilities.

4. You Get What You Pay For

There are deals to be had on some cruise lines, but normally you get what you pay for. You should always look for discounts; however going off the beaten path and opting to book a cruise on an unknown line with nothing but poor reviews simply because it's only $60 a day is a recipe for disaster. You'll wind up disappointed by the experience - or worse!

When it comes to choosing the right cruise line for you, do your research. Check online photos and video, read customer testimonials, review the target market and remember that cheaper isn't always better.

Get Affordable Cruise Rates

Get Affordable Cruise Rates

Get Affordable Cruise Rates
By Ken S

Hello World!

Ready to cruise? I've been contemplating cruising for a long time, so I've been doing some research on cheap ones, with low affordable rates. I found so many affordable cruises and great cruise offers in my search, I decided to add a travel section to my website. I've also been driven to post money-saving cruise deals, specials, and promotions on my blog to share with the world.

But before I got excited over the low rates I discovered, I did some research to see what 'hidden costs' I might have to be prepared for. This way, I would know what to expect when it comes to the bottom line. It's a good thing I did. I found that there are several components that make up the cost of cruise travel and all of them need to be considered in the final cost:

BASIC CRUISE COSTS

The 'base' cost of your cruise will include your accommodations as chosen for the length of the cruise, on board entertainment and activities, meals and use of the facilities aboard the ship. This base cost will fluctuate with the seasons and depend on what part of the world you're traveling to. Generally, this is the advertised cost.

PORT TAXES AND FEES

These are the taxes and fees that are charged to the cruise lines by the various government and port authorities at the ports where the ship docks; the cruise line passes these fees along to the passengers. These fees will vary, and may or may not be a part of the cruise package, so read the fine print.

AIR TRAVEL COSTS

These are additional travel costs that would include any airfare from your home city to the port where you will join the ship, and your return airfare home. They may or may not be included in the price of your cruise package. Be be sure to find out.

ADDITIONAL TRAVEL COSTS

If you are traveling by air to your port of call, you will also need to factor in the cost of transportation to and from the airport, along with any parking or baggage handling fees.

TRAVELER'S MEDICAL/CANCELLATION INSURANCE

These are an optional costs, but ones I highly recommend. Did you know you could lose your money if you have to cancel a pre-paid cruise? Did you know many cruise lines are registered in the Bahamas or other ports outside the United States? Because of this, did you know your medical insurance may not cover any illness you may experience on the ship if it is registered outside of the United States? Traveler's medical and/or cancellation insurance will cover illness and most penalties incurred for canceling due to illness or death before the cruise. It is very affordable with insurance policies starting at just $30, but please note that all cruise insurance policies are different, so read them carefully. (You can get more information on traveler's medical insurance or travel guard insurance from my website.)

MISCELLANEOUS

Be prepared for other small miscellaneous costs such as tips and gratuity, alcohol, on-shore excursions, and add-on luxuries (such as massages, manicures, etc.).

Finally, the season in which you chose to travel will determine how cheap and affordable your cruise rate will be. Like most industries, cruise lines set their pricing based on supply and demand. If you book during the busiest seasons, the price is the highest. If you book during their slowest vacation periods, the price will be much lower. With a little flexibility, knowledge, a great resource, and access to insider deals, you can enjoy the cruise of your dreams without breaking the bank.

Bon Voyage!

Cruise Vacation Packing Checklist

Dream Vacations

Cruise Vacation Packing Checklist

Cruise Vacation Packing Checklist
By Robbie Claus

Essentials-In other words, without these you will be waving goodbye while your ship sails without you!! Your cruise vacation packing list must contain these items-

1. Passport and visas if necessary and photo ID (drivers license)

2. Cruise documents and e docs or airline tickets

Will make your life easier for you to enjoy your cruise vacation-

Credit Cards

A sturdy document holder to keep you organized

Travel Insurance document

Health Insurance cards

Emergency phone numbers of relatives back home

First Aid kit including band aids, aloe, antiseptic ointment, bug repellant, suntan lotions, prescription drugs and some over the counter items such as aspirin would be advisable.

Sunglasses, Guidebook, money/language translator, cell phone, laptop if you need to keep in touch with the outside world

A waterproof holder for your cabin key, waterproof camera as well as video camera for those photo ops

Your favorite water bottle from home will make it easy to take to the fitness center and the jogging track

Straw beach mats and beach bag

How much clothing do you really need? Well, first that will depend on the length of your cruise. For the typical 7 night Caribbean Cruise you will usually need 2 sets of formal wear if you intend on dining in the formal dining areas. The rest of the evenings you can get away with business or resort casual wear. Don't forget change of shoes/bags and accessories you will need as well as your personal toiletries. Bathing suits are essential as well as fitness wear if you'd like to take advantage of the free health clubs aboard most ships. Good walking shoes, sneakers, sandals and heels for the late night clubbing.

Now if you are going to Alaska you will want to bring along some different items than if you are going on a warm sunny island of the Caribbean. You will want to layer your clothing as it can get quite chilly cruising along the glaciers. A water proof jacket with a zip out lining would be very nice to have along. Binoculars for whale and wildlife spotting. A good pair of hiking shoes would also be very helpful. Gloves, hat and raingear are all essential for Alaska Cruises. Sweaters, shirts that can be layered and jeans as well as kaki's to take along. You still need the suntan lotion and some bug repellant.

My best advice is to pack as light as possible since cabin sizes aren't very accommodating as compared to a typical hotel room. But you didn't come on a cruise to spend all your time in your cabin. Most cruise ships do not limit you to an amount of suitcases. The airlines still do that but a lot of people drive to the ports so that is why I mention this. However, since your cabin is where you will be storing your gear for your entire vacation, you will want to limit the unnecessary baggage and keep it to an acceptable minimum.
