Personal Development with a Purpose

Personal Development with a Purpose

Personal Development with a Purpose
By Paul Check

There's an old saying that goes, "If you don't know where you're going, any path will take you there." The same is true of personal development. Everyone who starts down the path of personal development wants to grow - to evolve into something more than when they began their journey. But figuring out just what path to take when you set out is a major challenge in and of itself.

As a holistic health practitioner, I'm a big fan of getting right to the heart of the matter. So the first thing I do when I meet with a new client who is ready to begin their quest for personal development is to ask them if they have a legacy.

What exactly does that mean?

Most of us have some sense of the meaning of the term "legacy." The common use of this word is backward looking.

Take this question: "What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?" In this case, a legacy is something like the achievements we're known for when we're gone. But this backward looking sense of a legacy is just a small part of what I'm after when I talk to clients about their legacy. After all, we're not planning for their funeral here!

The reason why I use the word "legacy" is that it focuses our attention on the whole picture and purpose of our lives. It's fantastic to have career goals, financial goals or relationship goals, but often times we tend to ignore the other aspects of our lives in favor of pursuing those particular achievements. This imbalance inevitably slows down our growth and frequently results in all sorts of health problems.

True personal development requires a holistic approach, one in which you've set out the ideal picture of your life and developed a goal structure that supports that the achievement of that total life goal. Because a legacy just is your complete life's goal, having one is a crucial step in taking a holistic approach to personal development.

So one fantastic benefit to having a legacy is that it can help you to create and organize goals. It provides you with the ideal towards which all your efforts in life are directed. But having a well thought-out legacy offers so much more. As with any other project, there will always be distractions while you are working on yourself. We have habits to overcome, patterns of procrastination, people who need our time and energy, and so forth. The power of a legacy is that it can provide a very powerful tool to conquer those habits, steer clear of the procrastination, and to meet the needs of those around us with out getting diverted.

In fact, the reason why these diversions can have such a pull on us is because we don't have any particular force guiding us in a direction that we truly want to go. But when your day is built around your legacy, those distractions become impotent. The short term pleasures that procrastinating offers pale in comparison to the potential of your legacy and as long as you stick to your goals, you're always one day closer to realizing that dream.

Of course, the extent to which your legacy will help you to create and organize your goals, and boost your motivation is going to depend upon how much detail you give to the picture of your ideal life. This picture of your legacy often develops over a long period of time, but you can get a decent handle on it by thinking about the following lifestyle components:

1) People - what kind of people do you value, feel comfortable with, get excited about spending time with?

2) Passion - what is it about life that enlivens you and fills you with energy?

3) Purpose - what is it that brings meaning to your life or gives you a sense of fulfillment?

4) Responsibilities - what kinds of responsibilities are you comfortable handling in your life, whether they be personal, professional or spiritual?

5) Career - what manifestation of your abilities, purpose and passion would best fulfill your career needs?

6) Values - your values are your needs and desires, ranging from your most basic physical needs to those that dictate your relationships with your friends, loved ones, co-workers and the environment at large. What are your values?

This list here certainly isn't exhaustive, but it's a good start. Not only will it help you to fill out the picture of your career, but the relationships you develop with your self and your loved ones. At the C.H.E.K Institute and in my PPS Success Mastery Program we get into much greater detail as we help our clients find and create their legacies on a daily basis.

Because this picture you're developing is your life's goal, I recommend, just as with any goal, that you write it down. Or, if you are artistically driven, you can draw it, paint it, sculpt it, or make it physical in whatever way works best for you. However you do it, don't allow your legacy to remain just an idea! Your legacy will be much more motivating when you can look it in the face each and every day.

Knowing that you have a purpose and that you are living your purpose every day is a wonderful thing. It makes me spring out of bed each morning, energized and excited! How many people do you know that look forward to their day, every day, in that way? So take the time to map out your legacy today. You'll be giving yourself a path to personal development with a purpose and that's a path to success!

Transcending Fear To Achieve Success

Transcending Fear To Achieve Success

Transcending Fear To Achieve Success
By Debbie Campbell

Transcending fear does not mean to abolish fear. To transcend fear, you must identify the fear and understand it and then it won't have so much power over you. You move through the fear. You accept and expect fear but do not let it be an excuse to avoid the necessary follow through and persistence in achieving your goals and dreams.

We all have fears including fear of the unknown, fear of success, fear of humiliation, rejection, and inadequacy. These fears are addressed in my book "DARE TO SUCCEED: How to Transcend Your Fears and Achieve Your Goals". The book helps the reader to identify the fears that pertain to them through mini-assessments and obtain insight into how these fears impede success. Additionally, exercises and strategies are presented in the workbook section to practice surmounting fears.

Preparation, planning, and success experiences will all help you through the experience of fear. If you are clear say about a presentation you will be making at work, you can at least have confidence that you have prepared and know your material. Practice and visualization will aid preparation. Strategic planning as to how you will accomplish your goals will help you to feel more empowered, less adrift, and frightened.

Success breeds success. To transcend fears and assist yourself with self-confidence, remind yourself of your successes, your talents, and your skills. Stay in the present, keep focused and concentrated, and avoid the "what if's. Actors know that if they are prepared, this will ensure a better performance. A successful actor also knows though that he must keep his anxiety (and fear) in check enough so that a bit of "anticipatory anxiety" will keep him focused whereas too much anxiety and fear will negatively impact performance. Build more and more success experiences for yourself. Make it happen! You'll be glad you did!

Attitude Can Make A Difference

Attitude Can Make A Difference

Attitude Can Make A Difference
By Michael Cortes

If you don't already know, I am a fan of Survivor. So, when I was watching the first episode of the "Fans vs Favorites" season (2008) with my daughter, I laughed out loud at the difference in attitudes. "What do I mean?", you ask.

I laughed when the two tribes met for the first time. This is when they meet and attempt to whip each other at some physical contest. One tribe is made up of previous Survivor players, who were either favorites or favorite people to hate. The other tribe is made up of first-time players who are big fans. After they spent a night in the wild, (without fire, food, or fun) they came together for the first competition and I laughed while my daughter looked on, confused.

"Why are you laughing, Dad?", she said.

"Because you can look at those two tribes and see the advantage the favorites have because of their attitude."

"What do you mean?"

"When I was in the Marine Corps, one of the most feared experiences was the Gas Chamber," I replied.

Why? Can you imagine waking into a room full of swirling, fog that is composed of who-knows-what kind of chemicals; burning your eyes, throat, and nose? It also makes all the mucous in your body, exit you body through your nose. This also is not a fun experience.

I first joined in this fun event in bootcamp. Then again several times throughout my career. The first time it was miserable and scary. The second time, I remembered it was scary and I and my peers feared it because of that memory. But after several years went by and I had experienced the gas many times, and had achieved the rank of Sergeant... I was now in charge of other Marines and was always conscious of setting an example. (Yes, a good example) I now knew what to expect and knew I would be fine once it ended. So I and the other Sergeant had an advantage. We walked in and posed. Yes... posed. A classic hands on hips, drill-instructor, leader-of-men, recruiting-poster pose. It said, "I am Marine and fear nothing!" Please insert your own grunting soundtrack here.

Lucky for us, the new Marines could not read our mind. They didn't know that it also burned our eyes, throat, and nose. That we were in just as much pain as they. But because our attitude (mucous on our shirts not withstanding) was "We will be fine! We can have some fun with them while we are here!" we weren't as miserable.

Thursday, if you had looked at those "favorites" next to the "fans", you would have seen the same difference in attitude. The fans were sullen, serious, and somewhat miserable. (Like the first day in the gas chamber) The favorites were smiling, having fun with the fans, and definitely not miserable. It was day and night. Their attitude was allowing them to handle the situation better. To be less uptight and more ready to deal with what lay ahead. It also affected how the fans perceived them. Perhaps, the fans looked at them with a "They are the Survivors and they fear nothing!" attitude that caused a bit of intimidation. In Survivor, you can see why that can be an advantage.

I hope it made sense to her. I hope you remember how attitude can affect your situation. So when she is facing a tough situation... or even everyday stress, maybe she can find a way to change her attitude towards the situation. Try to find a way to make it just bit less miserable.

Do you have any tips on facing tough situations? How do you use attitude to face the world?

The So-Called Secret to Success

The So-Called Secret to Success

The So-Called Secret to Success
By Dion Morrison

Where do we begin?

That is a simple question. We begin at the begining, right? We start with that which is the primary thing, the essential or necessary. This is the basic idea that we must settle up front.

That basic idea is the term: PRINCIPLE

Let us define this term. A Principle is defined as the underlying truth upon which 'all other truths rest upon.' This is why it is essential and of the utmost importance!

I do not offer any scientific evidence or proof of this statement. And it is not my purpose here to get into any lengthy discussion about whether this is the proper starting point. Time and space will not allow that. I am simply offering it to the reader so he may determine for himself, the truth of the matter. But, in an effort to explain my belief let us make a comparison. Is it not reasonable to assume, that if there are physical laws that govern the physical world, that there must also be laws that gover the mental and spiritual realm?

This is important to understand. If you do not understand this concept, go back and look at the definition of Principle. (Note: If you ever have trouble while studying, always have access to a dictionary, for it is important to be clear about the words we are using and especially their meanings). Let us move on.....

Why is this idea so important?

Because, it takes success out of the realm of LUCK, CHANCE AND SUPERSTITION! It helps us to see that there is an intelligent design back of all that exists in our universe. We may call this the Law or the Principles that govern.

Now, let's take another step in this discussion. If everything is governed by law/principles, then personal achievment must also be governed by law.

Again, I must repeat, that this is another one of those ideas that is 'self evident'. If you cannot see this please go back to the definition above and think about it. If after that you are still not convinced, just try to accept it as a theory and test it in reality.

What if you knew someone who was already successful and living the lifestyle that you want? If he offered to coach you into your own success for free, would you accept his offer? If he says, " hey, I know that these ideas lead to success and I want to help you learn to use them," would you listen? If you answered yes, please do not discount the power of the concept I will now share with you. The concept is the one of a "ROLE MODEL". If you can model his beliefs, thinking and his actions, would you not produce the same results?

Where do you find these role models?

You find them at your local bookstore or library. They have been leaving the clues behind for struggling humanity for literally THOUSANDS OF YEARS! Go find these great men in these books and learn from them. They have found the principles and they are offering you the teaching, without all the time necessary to learn them on your own. You say you want prosperity, start by studying that subject. Become an expert on that subject. This is the big secret of success I was referring to earlier. Its not really a secret, but it seems that way because so many are struggling in life and finances. Once again, I encourage you to seek the knowledge and you will find it. And while you are seeking knowledge wisdom and understanding, make sure you get the understanding that a PRINCIPLE can provide.

Success is a Choice - Choose Freedom, Wealth and Abundance

Success is a Choice - Choose Freedom, Wealth and Abundance

Success is a Choice - Choose Freedom, Wealth and Abundance
By Joe Krarup

I'm sure you'll agree that the British climate is not the ideal place to live. We would all like to be living on a sun drenched beach in Hawaii or Australia. Over recent years we have herd the term "sad decease" particularly during the winter months when the days are short, waking up in the dark, going home in the dark, freezing temperatures. You here people moaning about January being a long month, no money etc.

Then when March arrives and spring time is on it's way with the shoots of the Daffodil's breaking through, the days are getting longer, people start to feel better! In my view this is a state of mind. With personal development you can feel great every year, every month, every day, every minute. Your subconscious mind is an amazing creation, your mind is the most powerful computer on the planet producing thought processes every second. Unfortunately most of these thought processes are negative due to our conditioning.

With personal development you can train your subconscious mind by drip feeding it with positive thoughts which will transform into your conscious mind. This can be done by reading books, going to seminars and listening to audio CD's. I have CD's in my car so I am constantly drip feeding my subconscious mind with positive empowering thoughts. I have read hundreds of books on personal development. I surround myself with mentors like Les Brown, Jim Rohn, Zig Ziggler and others through the medium of DVD's.

I have learned that you can choose how you want to feel, choose how you want to behave and choose what kind of results you can achieve in life. It is not easy in the beginning, but the results are amazing, and as you train your mind with certain techniques and exercises it gets easier and the results increase exponentially. It takes a month to change a habit and a year to create a new one. You've got to "fake it till you make it". Lets say you want to become a millionaire, then start living like one! I'm not suggesting you go out and spend all your money, but go to a really expensive restaurant, even if it's just for a coffee. Browse around expensive shops, try on a Rolex watch for size. Think, how can I afford this, not I'll never be able to afford this and see what the universal law, the law of attraction will produce for you.

Think only positive thoughts. Everything happens for a reason. The next time you're in a traffic jam, think well at least I'm not involved in the accident, I must be delayed for a reason, the universal law knows best. positive people attract positive people, happy energetic people attract happy energetic people, wealthy people attract wealth into their lives.

So I say today right this minute you can change the way you think, the way you view things and you can start to attract positive results in your life. Successful people are not "lucky" they think differently than the majority of others and therefore attract success.

Personal development, the development of your unique mind can do this for you. It will improve your relationships, your heath, fact optimistic people live on average 5 to 10 years longer than pessimistic people, and it will certainly improve your wealth.

Every day will be a great day, especially in January.

Are You Sabotaging Your Success?

Are You Sabotaging Your Success?

Are You Sabotaging Your Success?
By Shirley Muhammad

You may have heard that the Law of Attraction can help attract success in all areas of your life but did you know that you can also sabotage your success with it as well? Using the Law of Attraction consciously is a pretty simple process, but it is also easy to get diverted by our own negative thoughts and habits. We think we are doing everything right, but still nothing is happening and we start to wonder what we are doing wrong!

Does that sum up your experience? If you have been having limited success with the Law of Attraction, review the three common mistakes below and learn how to resolve them:

1) Doubting or disbelieving.

Do you really believe the Law of Attraction works? Do you really believe you deserve to have the things you desire, and that it is possible for you to have them? If you have even the smallest amount of doubt in your mind, you probably will not emit the right frequency of vibration to bring your desires into your life.

Basically, you will be giving mixed signals to the universe: "I want this, but I honestly don't believe I can have it." It's difficult for Law of Attraction beginners to truly believe it works because they haven't yet seen any "evidence" of it in their own lives. If you are one of those people, make a promise to yourself to foster a strong level of belief despite not really knowing. In essence, you are choosing to know rather than actually knowing. Some people would call this having faith. With practice, it's possible to build up a strong level of belief even without solid proof.

2) Frustration and impatience.

These two feelings are certain to put out the wrong frequency of energy to attract what you want! Instead of focusing on what you want, you're focusing on what you don't want and what you don't have.

As hard as it may seem, you'll need to keep guiding yourself back toward more positive thoughts and emotions every time you notice you're starting to slip. The more you do it, the easier it will be to maintain it over the long-run.

3) Lack of Emotion.

Do you float through each day on autopilot, not really feeling anything until something or someone in your physical environment triggers your emotions? This is probably the most common mistake that people make, simply because they haven't been taught to choose their emotional state.

When you allow outside influences to determine your emotions, it becomes much more difficult to attract things you want. You can control your emotions regardless of the situation. Choose to only emit a frequency that will attract what you desire in your life. Choose to maintain positive and empowering emotions at all times.

The key element here is to learn to choose positive emotions as often as you can each day. Take a little "bliss break" and think about something that makes you happy. Take time to give gratitude and express love frequently throughout the day and you'll have a much easier time attracting and manifesting things you want.

Make 2008 YOUR Year for Success

Make 2008 YOUR Year for Success

Make 2008 YOUR Year for Success
By Barbara Pellegrino

If you really want to be successful at anything, you will always need to get "back to basics." Understanding the fundamentals is paramount to achievement. Vince Lombardi the legendary coach of the Green Bay Packers football team, is famous for beginning each summer training camp by holding up a football and saying "Gentlemen, this is a football."

It seems a bit redundant doesn't it? Don't you think that these champion athletes, know what a football looks like? Yet Vince Lombardi felt it imperative.

Now, imagine if you were building a new house, where would you begin? Choosing the paint color, the window trims or light fixtures? Or digging the foundation and deciding on the materials that will comprise the basic structure. It may be more fun to chose the "pretty" things first, but having a strong powerful foundation, for your house is far more important initially. Even if you do choose the paints, trims and lights first, you will need to put them on hold, or in storage somewhere until the house is ready.

It seems to be common sense, yet, I see many people trying to achieve their dreams and goals, with out first building a strong foundation.

Especially, when one dream has been achieved and a new goal is set. People often forget that they are embarking on a whole new journey, entailing new lessons and mastering new skills.

Therefore a basic mind power program, daily, is essential to all success. It is how you master the law of attraction. The Universe is impartial and unemotional, it will only reflect back to you, your predominant thoughts and feelings, not your vague wishes, slight hopes or faint desires.

As Mike Dooley from The Secret says " The Universe may not give you what you want, but it does give you what you have been thinking." So how do you create predominant thoughts and feelings?

To guarantee you have the fundamentals covered:

1. Create a Treasure Map/Vision Board and have written goals.

A thirty year Harvard study found that the top 3% of the graduating class, controlled 95% of the personal wealth and all had specific and written goals. All success systems encourage you to write your goals. Many suggest you write them as if they are already accomplished and some personal development trainers suggest you write them out daily. Bob Proctor suggests writing goals in this manner: " I am so happy and grateful, now that...(fill in the blank with your current goal)...." Written goals are great for the left side of your brain. Pictures are great for the right side of you brain and for the subconscious mind. So for a whole brain integration, make sure you have a colorful and vibrant visual goal board in addition to your written goals.

2. Visualize, Feel and Celebrate the end result daily.

To guarantee your success vibration, a daily 5 minute, full sensory visualization, celebrating the end result (feeling the relief and gratitude of an accomplished goal) is far more powerful than scattered or intermittent positive thinking throughout the day. Thoughts are real forces and can be scientifically measured. A focused 5 minute celebration has far greater attraction power than many less focused thoughts added together. People often think they are "doing the work" when they aren't really. This is the difference between going to the gym and chatting to your friends versus going to the gym and doing the exercises.

3. Be diligent in your practices.

In The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, Deepak Chopra says; " Success in life can be defined as the continual expansion of happiness the progressive realization of worthy goals. Fulfilling ones desires with effortless ease."

The way he suggests this can be accomplished is by a daily mediation practice. Even though goals change and accomplished dreams become the basis of new desires, dreams and goals, the method by which they are accomplished remains the same, daily basic practices.

No matter what goal, dream or desire you are working on now, the important part is your daily practices, the foundation of your goals rely on what you do every day.

How Do You Measure Success? You Incorporated

How Do You Measure Success? You Incorporated

How Do You Measure Success? You Incorporated
By John Tebar

Most people are results driven. Results are the end of a multitude of actions or processes. That kind of thinking will destroy you. I am not saying that the end results are not important by all means they are. What I am saying is that having attention to just your end results you will miss the entire picture completely and sabotage your success. Let me explain.

Whether you are a solopreneur, part of partnership or any type of organizational structure, measures are important. The fundamentals in any business no matter what its structure has 2 major components to measure. One is Production and the other is Organization. You might think that organization has very little to do with production. I am here to tell you that organization has everything to do with production.

Having been an executive over 7 divisions and 21 department organizational structure, I know how things work. It doesn't even matter whether you're a 1 person company or 100,000 these fundamental don't change. Success can be measured in more ways than one. Do you make money first and then put an ad together? Obviously not, but just this one concept is a good place to begin. There are actually two components here. One is the making money and the other is placing an ad. We know that to measure success we need to have a statistic such as dollars volume of sales made. That is a result statistic. Ask yourself how do I arrive at this statistic?

Let us analyze this for a moment. In order to have a statistic to measure dollar volume of sales, you need to have a process in place to generate such a statistic. What is that process? If I am selling widgets, I would have to know how my dollars volume of sales is being generated. You must ask yourself the 5 questions. This is the who, what, why, where and how of a process. You would need to know who we are selling to. What are they buying? Why are they buying it? Where are they buying it and how are they buying?

These question will lead you to the first level of a process. For each of these questions to be fully answered you will have to drill down to successfully understand more of the process overall. For the sake of time I will only entertain one of these questions. Let me take the who are we selling to question.

We are selling widgets, yes those successful widgets and we find out that we are selling 85% to people in Success Ville, and 15% to Loser Town. What do these two groups have in common? They are all parents of 2 or more children that use widgets everyday. As you can see, we are now looking at these measures and the rest of the questions will naturally follow. What are we doing in Success Ville that we are not doing is Loser Town? We can continue on the what question by asking what outlets do they have in common, is there a difference in population and are ads targeting the right people in Loser Town, are we running similar ads?

Let us say we did our homework and found out that we only advertise in Loser Town once a week, yet in Success Ville we advertise 5 times a week. This would be an excellent way of figuring out what to do next to increase sales. Now we put into place more advertising at Loser town. Wait a minute do you believe that this is the end of it? This is exactly where people leave money on the table and simply forget about the entire process. What about Success Ville? Who created the winning ad? How did they create it? Could we use this elsewhere?

When you really do a full analysis of a result you will find yourself in all parts of an organization. Do these organizational areas have measure? Of course, the advertising department should be measured in many ways. What is there process? You need to go through it and develop measures that lead to the end product of that department.

This is organizational analysis as well. Let us say that this particular Ad was produced from the results of 5 surveyed groups. The department conducts 2 surveys a month. Do you wonder how you can improve the end result of your widget sales? How about increasing the number of surveys conducted? That would bring about more data and fresh information. It would not have a immediate effect on the dollar volume of sales but, the long term effect may rocket you sales statistics.

The process of measuring success in any endeavor begins with the ability to see all the flows of an organization. How they contribute to the overall results that one gets. Analyzing an organization from the top down will give you everything you need to know to supply you with information to not only double your output but exponentially increase your markets and sales.

Applications, like this is a great way to measure success. We know that the small things that we do in our businesses affect the larger results. You might be thinking, John your in the personal development business how is this relevant to personal development? Good question! Just as this is crucial for any business to be successful, it is the same tools for one to be successful in their own personal development.

I love to give examples. Let us say you want to increase your social activities. Start at what social activities are you currently engaged in? Let us say you go to seminars, you like the interaction. You have time during the week or weekends. How did you find out about the seminars that you do go to? What are their subjects? Are their any other similar subjects with events you like to attend? Is there something in the local papers of an up coming event that interest you? Where is it? Can I place it on my schedule?

Let us make it a goal to attend 2 seminars or social events per month. Start to look around and find events in your area or outside your area when your are free and book it. This is a process and the flow of it; look for an event, select the ones you want to attend, register for them, post them to your calendar, attend the event and check it off. You can measure your overall success with a graph of the goal "# of events successfully attended." You can set up a graph for every step of this process. This is how you can measure success in anything that you want in life.

This simple little example will open your eyes. You may find out there are more events in a neighboring town then your own. You may also find out that there are more events in the first part of the year than in the second. Another piece of information may be that there are more events to schedule for tele-seminars than there are for physical attendance. This is a wealth of information for you.

Yes, You Inc. can measure success. That measure takes into account not just the end result but starts from the very beginning of the process toward that result. You don't have to be a Harvard Graduate or MBA to analyze any business or individual result's, you simply must keep an open mind and understand the process. To your success!

Be Accountable To Be Successful

Be Accountable To Be Successful

Be Accountable To Be Successful
By Sharon Capehart

Success is founded on many things and one of its foundations is solid accountability. I'm going to give you some tips on how to become more accountable, mainly to yourself. Accountability starts with not accepting excuses for your own behavior. These excuses could be for any reason why you're not as happy, healthy, or successful as you'd like to be. When you do things that are not in your own best interest, you are giving yourself a free pass by accepting them as OK.

For example, when you eat fast food (no matter what the reason) instead of making a healthy lunch, you are sending the message to yourself that it's OK. This is a blatant lack of self-accountability because even though it's not the best thing for you, you did it anyway! What happens the next time you are in the same situation? Your resistance to doing the wrong thing is less because you've already done it!

The lives of many people are filled with excuses for behaviors that are not in their own best interest. Trust me, you need to be able to say 'Wait a minute! This isn't right!' Once you start taking back control of your life and stop making excuses for your own actions, your accountability will increase.

When you really examine what you are doing with your life, you will likely find that there are several examples of how you aren't being accountable to yourself. Left unchecked, this lack of accountability becomes apparent to other people as well. Do you realize that accountability and your success go hand in hand? You can change for the better very quickly, once you start being true to yourself.

Here are some pointers on how to become more accountable. First, make commitments that you know you can stick to. Yes, I know, things come up sometimes. Just ask yourself, 'Are you in charge of what happens around you or are you constantly reacting to what happens around you?' Accountable people are usually in charge and create both their own environment and their success!

Second, be direct. It's real simple, folks. The truth hurts sometimes but it serves you well in the long run to be direct and tell it how it is; this will earn you respect and will show that you've grown as an accountable and as a successful person.

Last, own up for things that happen around you. Assume responsibility for tasks and challenges that come your way. When explanations are called for, offer explanations, not excuses. Deep down, no one really wants to hear an excuse and people will ultimately have more respect for you if you just follow this simple suggestion:

"Explain it, own it, and stand behind it."

No excuses, no blame, none of that nonsense. That is the essence of accountability and a big part of success. Is it easier said than done? You bet it is! Once you make this a regular part of your life, though, the doors to success will open right in front of you!
