I Have A Dream, Now I Need To Make A Plan
I Have A Dream, Now I Need To Make A Plan
By Simon Meadowcroft
Initially I had planned to make one article about what will be necessary to achieve my dream and my plan for achieving it but I decided to split it into two for two reasons:
1. A single article would probably be a bit too long
2. As a single article I could not decide whether to put it under positive attitude or time management
So this article is under positive attitude. The next article where I set out my plan will be under time management and will be called 'My road to being organized'.
People who are used to reading my articles will note that they are very structured. This article is different and deliberately so because I am documenting my current state of mind and trying to define how I will achieve my goals.
After becoming involved with reading and writing ezines and becoming involved in on-line forums, I am finally in a position where I can define my goals in life. My goals are very simple and are as follows:
1. To help my wife and son be happy in life and help enable them to achieve their goals in life.
2. To help other people around me or who contact me through the internet to be happy and achieve their goals. I am particularly interested in helping children and people who feel ill or depressed.
3. To have work and outside interests which are interesting for me and keep me mentally stimulated.
In trying to achieve my goals not just at this moment but into the future I have a lot of things going for me.
1. I am intelligent and creative
2. I have a vivid imagination
3. I have a natural empathy with people
4. I have the positive attitude and belief in my abilities
On the negative side, I still have fears about the future which causes me to worry. If I have a positive attitude and belief in my abilities then why do I still have these fears?
It is not that I am afraid that lots of bad things will happen to me or that I am doing things badly. It is that I do not trust my memory, I know for a fact that I am forgetful and I think that things will slip through the net. When I do forget to do something I often feel bad and in that bad mood I often procrastinate making the problem even worse than it was originally.
Not to put too finer point on it the biggest fear I have every day is that there is something looming that I need to do something about and I am not remembering it. I often cannot sleep because at the back of my mind I think there is something that I am forgetting to do.
My problem is one of lack of focus, or more clearly the lack of ability to consider diverse areas of my life at the same time. I can focus on my work and give 100% on a particular job, producing very good results but as a result of this I don't take actions and make decisions I need to in my personal life. Even my work can suffer because while I am focusing on the current project, administrative tasks for this and other projects do not get done.
On the other hand I can focus on writing articles and developing my websites or participating in forums and may miss doing administrative tasks for work or not look after things which I need to do at home.
In the end you can say that despite my increasingly positive attitude and improved resolve to tackle my problems and responsibility head on I am still dragged down by worries about forgetting to do mundane but necessary activities. Unfortunately these worries are based on actual experience of sometimes letting things slide.
So how can my positive attitude help me deal with missing the stuff that I need to do?
Well it can help me better deal with the results of not doing things when I need to do them. Unfortunately though, it does not seem to improve my memory.
The next thing you may ask me is, how is this forgetfulness preventing me from achieving my goals? The reasons are as follows:
1. The negative state that these worries put me in often effects my concentration, drains my energy and reduces my effectiveness
2. Things which I need to do to organize a family vacation, actions in a strategy to gain more work projects or key strategies in promoting my articles and websites are not followed through with.
3. Because key activities are not being followed in a consistent manner my life often feels disjointed and I often feel there is no clear progress towards my goals.
So again I ask the question, how can my new positive attitude help? I think the ways it can help are as follows:
1. It convinces me that I need to make a plan to achieve my goals
2. It will help me to carry my plan through, no matter what the obstacles
So what is going to be my plan and how will I carry it through. Well you can read about it in my forthcoming article which will be under time management, 'My road to being organized'.
I would really like to know if it is just me that has these thoughts and these worries and whether there are others like me who have these worries about forgetting to do things and will be following my path to becoming organized. It is always nice to know you are not alone in any endeavor.
All the best in achieving your goals, Simon
