Is Meal Replacement For You?

Is Meal Replacement For You?
By Connie Carter

Ask anyone who has scaled the ladder of corporate success, 'What is the biggest constraint that you face in your life?' You will invariably have the same answer from everyone who responds to your question - paucity of time. Indeed, time is the scarcest resource in this world. But that needn't affect your dietary nutrition. This leads to the frantic search for instant meals.

A wide variety of prepared meals, protein bars and meal replacement shakes available can be found. One only need look in virtually any grocery or corner store, and they will find a product that they enjoy eating, and serves their nutritional issues. If you are uncertain, go through multiple options before settling on a favorite.

Ensure that you are not lured by jingles and flash promoting ready to eat packages. If you can do so, also ignore the large price cuts often attached to such programs. What matters is how healthy the food is. This can usually be determined by examining the nutritional information on the packaging. If you have any doubts, consult with a professional trained in diets and health.

The worth of a product is determined by its ingredients. Many energy bars and meal replacement drinks contain mostly table sugar. Protein shakes have similar problems, containing concentrated soy or whey proteins. You are getting the protein you want, but isolating a single part of a whole food always has negative consequences. The best types of meal replacements that identify themselves as whole food or whole grain products, as they contain a more complete nutrition than traditional meal replacement products.

Are You Craving Comfort?

AchievementRadio.com's

Are You Craving Comfort?

Are You Craving Comfort?
By Pamela Avery, MD

When stress builds up, a lot of us turn to comfort foods. The problem is that most of these foods are not very healthy. The good news is that there are foods that may help decrease your stress.

Stress can make people feel insecure and uncertain about the future. Many people turn to so-called "comfort foods" because it reminds them of a time when their lives were much less complicated, such as childhood. Typically, foods like macaroni and cheese, meat and potatoes, chocolate, chips or ice cream embody the "comfort" of being cared for.

While these foods can temporarily make you feel better, they are often loaded with calories, fat, sugar, and salt. In the long run, they make you feel even worse. While it's OK to turn to these foods every once in a while, there are some healthier alternatives.

There are foods that contain vitamins and nutrients which some studies have suggested can help relieve stress. Not everyone agrees with these studies, but the good thing about these foods is that, whether they relieve stress or not, they are good for you for other reasons as well.

Almonds: Have you ever felt stressed on the job and quickly turned to the office candy dish or cookie stash to soothe your anxiety? A much healthier choice could be a container of almonds in your desk. Instead of reaching for that quick sugar fix, you can reach for some nutty flavor instead. Almonds are high in B vitamins, zinc and vitamin E, all of which may help reduce stress. They also contain antioxidants and good heart-healthy fats, something no sugary treat can do!

Blueberries: If you can't or don't eat nuts, then try some berries, especially blueberries. They make a great snack and are high in vitamin C, another vitamin which may help reduce the impact of stress. Blueberries also are high in antioxidants and fiber. Fiber helps normalize your bowel functions, preventing both constipation and diarrhea, a common physical response to stress.

Some cereals: Cereals take us back to our childhood. A healthy cereal is high in fiber and fortified with B vitamins, such as folic acid. A single serving of a high fiber cereal should contain 5 or more grams of fiber to be healthy, as good rule of thumb. You should also be aware of the sugar in your cereal. There should be no more than 20% of the total carbohydrates present in the form of sugar. A cereal fortified with B-vitamins is helpful since stress actually depletes the body of B vitamins, essential for energy and metabolism.

Fruit and cottage cheese: My fondest memories are of my grandmother's special desserts she made just for her grandchildren, canned peaches and cottage cheese. Fruits are high in vitamin C, which again may help fight stress. Cottage cheese is good because it's packed with several B vitamins as well. Again, B vitamins can help beat stress. Just remember to get low-fat cottage cheese and use either fresh, frozen or canned fruits packed in water, not syrup.

Fish: Remember fishsticks as a kid? Not only is fish a stressbuster, it's also healthy for your brain and for your heart. Fish is high in several B vitamins and contains healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Instead of the heavily breaded fishsticks of the past, consider having a tuna fish sandwich on whole grain bread or a tuna salad. But make sure it's not loaded with too much mayonnaise. Pack a nice tuna fish sandwich on whole grain bread with a delicious red apple into a paper bag for lunch, just like mom used to do as she sent you off to school each day.

Comfort food can be healthy food. Just a few minor adjustments can turn an urge into a nutritious snack, designed by nature, to help you de-stress.

4 Signs of Abnormal Bowel Movements

AchievementRadio.com's

4 Signs of Abnormal Bowel Movements

4 Signs of Abnormal Bowel Movements
By Jessie Sanders

There are many schools of thought when it comes to determining what a normal bowel movement is. Having a bowel movement is a natural process that should be effortless. You shouldn't have to think about bowel movements, or make an effort to have one.

But everyone is unique, and will have their own scale of normality when it comes to bowel movements. But there are some signs that your bowel movements are abnormal, and should be discussed with your physician.

These 4 signs are indicators that you need to discuss your bowel movements with your doctor.

1. Low Frequency - Conventional wisdom says that you should have at least one bowel movement a day. There is no rule regarding the frequency of bowel movements, but if you are having less than 3 per week, this could be an issue. You may be suffering from constipation and should examine your diet. Remember, the less bowel movements you have, the more junk will be left inside you. (This includes toxin and parasite buildup)

2. Constipation - While low bowel movement frequency is one sign of constipation, there are many more symptoms that you may experience. Constipation might cause your bowel movements to be hard and dry,and may be difficult to pass. This will also be accompanied by bloating and discomfort.

How can you cure constipation? Take a look at your diet. Do you consume enough fiber? Do you drink enough water? You need to drink sufficient water (8 cups per day), and avoid caffeine (this causes dehydration).

Constipation will not only be uncomfortable, it will prevent your body from releasing toxins and parasites located in your colon and lower intestines. Just think of your body as a car. If you plug up the exhaust pipe, your car will be blocked up and the fumes will have nowhere to be released. Your body is the same way.

3. Diarrhea - Opposite of constipation, is diarrhea. Diarrhea is loose, watery bowel movements that occur more than 3 times a day. Diarrhea is mainly caused by eating something bad, but could also be caused by infection, viruses, and medication.

It is not normal to have loose stool, and your body is trying to rid itself of any viruses or adverse conditions causing the diarrhea. You should seek treatment if diarrhea lasts more than 3 days and you also experience fever, severe pain, dehydration, or blood in the stool.

4. Change in bowel habits - A sudden shift in your bowel movements can signal abnormality. This can include a change in frequency, color, shape, or consistency.

There are obvious signs that signal a change for the worse. It is never normal anytime there is blood in you stool. There could be many reasons why this is occurring, but you should check with your physician. It can be mild conditions like hemorrhoids, or more severe conditions like colon cancer.

Different colors hold different meanings when it comes to bowel movements. Red stools can be caused by hemorrhoids, anal fissures, or colon cancer. Black stools can be caused by internal bleeding. Green stools can mean that your bowel movements are moving too slowly through your colon.

Keep an eye out for each of these 4 signs in your bowel movements. A healthy colon is a big factor in your everyday health. Normal bowel movements will rid your body of toxins and parasites, and keep you functioning properly.

Frogs in Warm Water - Important Health Notice

Frogs in Warm Water - Important Health Notice

Frogs in Warm Water - Important Health Notice
By Linda Lin

Sweet stuff! Sounds good? Think again. Something is happening all over our country, perhaps all over the world. If you look around, really look around thoroughly in your supermarkets, in your mom & pop stores, in your department stores, you will notice one thing that is taking over almost all of our food products. Aspartame, or similar artificial chemicals are slowly being added to hundreds or even to thousands of products every month. The manufacturers of some of these products product are using a marketing plan that is helping to sneak the artificial sweetener into your life -without you even noticing it.

Lately, the advertisers and manufacturers have decided to keep the word diet off of their products. They are opting for words like less sugar or words like one or zero - when referring to calorie count. The whole plot is to keep the word diet off of the products that include aspartame in their ingredients list. This opens up their market to thousands and millions of people who are not or never will be dieters. Those individuals who were or are embarrassed that they are dieting will gladly take a soda called zero or one over taking a soda labeled diet soda. The stigma of dieting is slowly being removed from the packaging of millions of containers, boxes, labels and products.

What does this mass marketing campaign do in your world? How does this affect you? What this does is that it limits your choices. Unless you are aware this is happening, it is unlikely that you will stop and read the fine print of the ingredients list before you purchase, buy, eat or drink any regular products. You most likely assume that aspartame products have to have the word diet on them, and if you really believe that you are really far from the truth of the matter.

TRY THIS EXPERIMENT: Go any store in your neighborhood and check out ten or twenty packs of gum or candy. Most likely any of the gums you see will have some percentage of aspartame in the gum, yet will not be labeled diet gum. This is a marketing trick and the trick is on you, if you are not well-informed. Check out the latest new sodas or drinks or the latest new cookies on the market. You will find aspartame in many new products and even in some older products. Just try that simple experiment right in your own supermarket. Write us and let us know your results.

HOOKING THE CHILDREN: One of the most horrible things that the company is doing is trying to hook the children on the taste of this new sweetener. Recently there was a commercial that showed children being served a sweet cereal by their mom. Everything in the commercial appeared fantasy-like, everything perfect, and the children were seen with the spoons in their hands and the sweetener flowing freely from the spoons. The cereal advertised a wonderful new taste, and the children and mom were thrilled with this new taste in the cereal. This is and was a serious attempt to get children hooked on this chemical sweetener which is now being added into some cereals. Think about this. If this sweetener takes over the children's cereal line, almost all children will soon be hooked on the chemical. Is that really what you want for your children? If you have children, stick to the natural sweetener - sugar. The chemical companies are trying to give sugar all the bad hype and bad publicity and the public and society is falling for this trick.

There has never been anything wrong with sugar. Sugar is a natural sweetener. The problems that people have with sugar are the problems of abusing sugar, using too much of it. But problems come when you use too much of everything or anything. So switching your children to the chemical instead of letting them use sugar will not solve anyone's health problems. The key is to train your children in the moderate use of products rather than training them to switch to chemicals instead of using sugar. Of course, if someone is diabetic that is different. They need to restrict the use of sugar. But to treat all children as if they are diabetic or will be diabetic is totally wrong.

If there was more good than bad by switching to the chemical then companies would be honest and print it in large print that they are adding the chemical to the cereals or to the other products. But the fact remains that the chemical company is literally trying to sneak this chemical into most of the foods that we are eating. We, as responsible consumers need to change this trick advertising and force the companies, by boycotting, to reveal on the front of the boxes when they add chemicals to our food and drinks. Do your part. Read all ingredients of all products, especially the gums and children's products. Boycott those companies that add chemicals to our products without revealing that in large print on the front of the boxes. You can help by doing this.

THE SECRET! Why are the companies hiding the fact that they are adding aspartame to many of their products. If they have such a great product, why hide the name? Why not announce to the public that they are now adding aspartame in place of sugar? Why? The reason this is being done in the fine print is because the marketing people know that the public will not accept another chemical addition to their food, drinks or gum if they have the choice. If the companies do not make the public aware that these additives are in these products, then the public cannot protest and cannot boycott these products.

For so many years I have avoided aspartame. I have done this because my throat has an allergic reaction to the chemical. This aspartame makes my throat scratchy. It delivers great pain and even sometimes makes my voice change - to scratchy and it feels very sore. In the pas, I could avoid the aspartame by simply reading the large letters on the package and by avoiding diet foods and drinks. I imagine that there are many people who have even worse reactions to the chemical, after all, it is a chemical. Do you want to eat chemicals just because the advertising companies have scared you away from sugar?

Now, I have to read all the fine print, and read all the ingredients to safeguard my own health. How many other consumers are in this position now that these companies have decided to trick the consumer by hiding the chemical in the products and in the small print? Today, some advertisers and some corporations are going to great lengths to introduce this chemical sweetener to children. They know if they get children hooked on the taste of this chemical that they will be the company to have there children for customers for their entire lifetimes. Wow. Imagine hooking children as customers. Imagine the years of being consumers that children have left in them. When a company hooks a child on something , whether that be cigarettes or chemical sweeteners, most likely that child will be that company's lifetime customer. This is why some companies are putting the chemical sweetener into children's cereals. They put the chemical into cereals that are marketed to children. You have seen the commercials. Now go read the box labels that are on those particular cereals. (There are some cereals that do not have the chemical in them; but check them all out). If you want your child to be a healthy child and healthy adult, you would do your best to not give that chemical to your child at all. Of course it goes without saying that if your child is diabetic, you need to follow a different route. Ask your pediatrician for advice with this. I am not saying that the chemical should never be used at all; I am saying that we need to KNOW where this chemical is. Companies should say right in large letters, on the front of the box contains aspartame or contains artificial sweetener but they do not print that. They put it in fine print where most consumers will not read it or cannot read it due to the smaller type. Instead some companies opt to print things similar to, "BRAND NEW TASTE" or "FRESH NEW TASTE," and some advertise: "Now half the calories." I have examined many boxes of food and some gums and found that most times when a company advertises a brand new taste or fresh new taste, what they are really saying is that they have chosen to add a chemical sweetener in place of some of or in place of all of the sugar in that particular product. To protect your health - read the fine print and read the ENTIRE list of ingredients.

CAUSES INCONTINENCE: Some chemicals cause incontinence. It makes sense. Do you expect to add chemicals (that were never meant to be consumed) to your diet and not have it affect your health and your body, years down the road? Years ago, I remember reading an article in a science magazine and the article stated that this chemical, this artificial sweetener makes humans incontinent. That was enough to make me avoid the artificial sweetener. What does the average consumer think about this campaign to hook people on artificial sweeteners? Most people agree that if there is nothing wrong with the sweetener and if the sweetener benefits people, then why are the companies trying to "hide" the chemical under the phrase of brand new taste or fresh new taste. Why? All consumers wonder why. Bottom line is that though thousands might reject a package that says contains aspartame , thousands might accept a package that says, Brand New Taste. What consumer would not want to try a brand new taste or a new flavor? So these chemical companies that produce this product are getting thousands of new customers, hooking thousands of more people on the basis that it is a brand new taste, rather than an old chemical. Think twice before you buy. Read all labels and really know what you are about to consume.

It is up to you if you want to take in artificial sweetener or not, but when companiespurposely hide the fact that they are switching over to artificial, and when companies do not advertise that a brand new taste is nothing more than an added chemical, then these companies are treating consumers as if they have no minds, no thinking processes and best of all -no choices.

How many customers would choose an artificial chemical if they knew that this was in their food, drinks, snacks and other consumable items? What is your choice?

AVOID BEING FOOLED:

Notice new packaging. Sometimes the addition of the aspartame to the package needs a new ingredients list and a new packaging . In lots of new package, newly packaged products, there is aspartame or other chemical sweetener.

  • Examine the ingredients of any package that boasts, Brand new taste . The new taste might just be the sweetener.
  • Examine any products that claim , now contains half the sugar.
  • If you have time, read all the ingredients for all the products, gums and foods and drinks that you intend to consume
  • Urge your family members and everyone who shops to notice all ingredients before making a purchase.
  • STOP THE CHEMICAL CHARADE:

    · Begin a letter-writing campaign in your schools, organizations and clubs and write to the presidents of all major food and drink companies and demand that they reveal -in large print - on their boxes when they have opted to include chemicals in their foods. Publicize your campaign. Write letters to the editors in your towns and let the public know about this chemical farce.Publicize this as much as you can.

    · Ask everyone you know to read this article and then begin their own letter-writing campaign to all the companies that sneak this chemical into our food and drinks. Reach out to large organizations. There are numbers in organizations. If you ask one leader, a president or chief executive officer to help stop this chemical bleed into our food system, that leader can urge all the employees and their friends and families to write letters to their state leaders. This is a very important mission that you have. What you do today, how you make your purchases today can affect the health of your children, your grandchildren and your great-grandchildren. Let's stop the chemical additions to our food that are done in private, in secrecy. Everyone should go back to the old idea of clearly labeling diet food so that people know when there are chemicals in the food. We deserve to make our own choices and many large advertising companies are taking the choices away from us and we, as consumers did not even notice they are doing it.

Do not be the frog in warm water. Most people know that story. You put a frog in warm water and he will keep on swimming around until he is totally cooked. But put a frog in hot or boiling water and he will jump sky high out of the pot to safety. I am telling you now, that you as consumers of this secretly-added chemical are frogs in warm water. Run to your typewriters today and run to your phones today and make these corporate leaders know that you will not be fooled and that you want the chemicals clearly labeled when they are added to foods that you are purchasing.

Boycott all products that are not clearly labeled on the front of the box that these chemicals have been added. If a product has a chemical in it, and is labeled, fresh new taste or brand new taste or half the sugar then boycott those products today.

Do not be a frog in warm water. Take an action today that will protect your health today and tomorrow.

Mama, I Don't Want To Eat Pesticides!

Mama, I Don't Want To Eat Pesticides!

Mama, I Don't Want To Eat Pesticides!
    By Willie Jones

So, your pantry is stocked with its packages, cans, oils and spices. Your fridge is full of meat, fruit and vegetables. You may be feeling comfortable with the fact that you've supplied your family with a good supply of sustenance. Not so fast! Here are some things we've been lead to believe are better than Mother Nature's recipes.

When you eat traditionally grown fruits and vegetables and spices, you may also be consuming insecticides, pesticides and fumigants. On that warm summer day when you are enjoying that sweet peach or juicy apple, your body has to deal with the fact that an onslaught of foreign toxic material has entered its system. In addition to extracting usable nutrients, it has to remove the toxic substances. If you repeatedly, day after day, consume these chemicals, your liver and kidneys can become overwhelmed. If you ate organically all your life, your body should be able to handle this, but this is not the case for the majority of Americans.

Most Americans consume pesticides, herbicides and fumigants daily. In fact, it is estimated that we consume 13 to 20 different pesticides, insecticides or fumigants on any given day. Pregnant women and children are especially at risk.

    Here are some examples of pesticides, herbicides and fungicides and their side effects;

    - Iprodione is a carcinogen in both humans and animals.
    - Azinphos can interfere with hormones.
    - Phosmet is also a carcinogen, can damage the reproductive system and also interferes with hormones.
    - Benomyl and carbaryl are known carcinogens, can cause birth defects, can damage the nervous system and the brain, can cause vomiting and diarrhea.
    - Fungicides such as captan, azoxystrobin and mancozeb can irritate the eyes, skin and respiratory tract.
    - Herbicides such as mecoprop and 2,4 ?D Barrage can increase bizarre or aggressive behavior, irritate mucous membranes and skin, can cause headaches, confusion, vomiting and diarrhea.
    - Paraquat can cause a burning sensation in the mouth, throat and chest, can make one feel giddy or lethargic, feverish and headachy and can cause dry cracked hands.
    - Insecticides such as orthene, dursban and thiodan can cause headaches, excessive tearing and salivation, muscle twitching, nausea, diarrhea, possible seizures.
    - Hexchlorocyclohexane high exposure can cause blood disorders, dizziness, headaches, seizures and can affect hormones.

There are so many chemicals used in our agriculture that I could write pages of their harmful effects from continual exposure but the above gives you the idea.

There are some ugly truths about the meat we consume as well. There are feed farms where it is necessary to feed cattle, pigs and chicken with antibiotics. Unlike animals that are allowed to graze naturally, feed farms have animals confined in a building for all their lives. This makes them prone to disease and so antibiotics are used liberally. Some microbes in the animal become resistant to the antibiotics. Now we have the problem where people who choose to fight infection with antibiotics, may find themselves resistant. We also have the problem of hormones fed to cattle to fatten them up. What do you think happens to you when you ingest these hormones? If it fattens the cows wouldn't it stand to reason it would also fatten you up? Europe does not allow the hormone rBGH to be used, but the in the US, approximately 90% of livestock farms use hormones.

There is also the debate about early puberty in young girls. According to Samuel Epstein, MD, professor of occupational and environmental medicine at the university of Illinois Medical Center and founder of Cancer Prevention Coalition, worries that because children normally have low sex hormones, even a small increase could have detrimental effects.

Because we are so over exposed to toxins from the air we breath, the water we drink and the food we eat, it stands to reason that going organic is a step in the right direction. You may be surprised at how you will feel by reducing toxicity in your body.

We all want ourselves and our families to be healthy, don't we? It is our responsibility to get educated to make the right decisions, and whenever possible eat organic foods.

    How Important Are B Vitamins?

    How Important Are B Vitamins?
    By Mike Selvon

One of the most important vitamin complexes that one can ingest is the B vitamins. Our bodies need all eight of them in order to maintain health. One of the best ways to get these vitamins is by eating a healthy diet. Sometimes, though, taking extra multi vitamins is a good way to get them all. A good way to find out all one can about the B vitamin complex is to do a little research on the internet.

The B vitamin complex is responsible for many aspects of bodily functions. These ones are responsible for the breakdown of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Some function to provide energy for the body and to keep the nervous system running smoothly. Others are responsible for the maintenance of healthy skin, nerves and the intestinal tract. And B 12 helps to make blood cells in our body. The group works together to deliver a number of health benefits.

If you think that you are not getting an adequate, daily supply of the B vitamins, then supplements are a very good idea to maintain good health. A great website to investigate this complex group of vitamins and others too, is Evitamins. User reviews are posted, as well as a detailed explanation of what each supplement does for the body. The prices are reasonable, and the shipping can be quick if one is willing to pay the price.

All of the B vitamins will help to keep the body healthy and happy, but sometimes a healthy diet is not enough. Because of their importance, if a person does not eat healthy foods then a supplement may be needed. In order for a person to learn about this complex group and, if necessary, the right supplements to buy, then a quick Google search will provide plenty of food for thought.

Enrich your knowledge further about b vitamins from Mike Selvon portal. We appreciate your feedback at our vitamins and supplements blog where a free gift awaits you.

    Bird? Plane? No, They're Superfruits!

    Bird? Plane? No, They're Superfruits!
    By Genevieve Bordeaux

Ever heard of Superfruits? This term was first used by health food and drink companies in 2005; so it has only been around for a few years. This term refers to exotic and semi-exotic fruit that not only have antioxidant abilities, but taste great too. Here is a current list of today's available and recognized Superfruits.

Mangosteen: The mangosteen's best known health properties are the richness of antioxidants and the improvement of cardiovascular health. The mangosteen is also a natural antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, and antiviral.

Cranberry: The cranberry is also known as one of the great antioxidants of the fruit world. The cranberry is great for bladder infections, healthy skin, kidneys, and urinary tract infections. It is also ranked near the top of the 277 most commonly consumed foods in the United States of America. How's that for popularity?

Acai: This Superfruit comes from Brazil and surrounding areas. It is a great source of protein, dietary fiber, and a few proteins that improve cardiovascular health. It is also said to have the ability to reduce cholesterol levels.

Blueberry: Blueberries have recently been targeted as helping cure urinary tract infections, and have the possibility to prevent cancer. There has been a recent study that has found that feeding blueberries to animals reduces the effects of a stroke.

Grape (seed and skin): Scientists claim that grapes act as a powerful fighting agent against the effects of aging. As well as being strong antioxidants, grapes also help lower cholesterol. They also have natural antihistamine qualities.

Guarana: Guarana has a chemically equivalent to caffeine. It is claimed that guarana helps with memory retention, mood, and alertness.

Noni: This has anti-depressant effects as well as an anti-inflammatory. In Indochina, noni fruit is taken for dysentery, asthma, and lumbago.

Pomegranate: They have higher levels of antioxidants than green tea and red wine. Pomegranates are a great source of vitamin c, potassium, and vitamin b. Also, dentists will love to hear that pomegranates reduce dental plaque.

Sea Buckthorn: This is widely known to treat liver disease, canker sores, frostbite, burns, arthritis, and gastrointestinal problems.

Wolfberry: This is one that has played a huge role in Chinese medicinal history. They believe wolfberry enhances and bolsters the immune system, improves eyesight, and protects the liver. This can be consumed raw, dried, or as a juice.

With this great new fad of health products, Superfruit is just one more thing to add to the ever-increasing list of healthy alternatives. Eat Healthy for Fitter Abs

    Eat Healthy for Fitter Abs
    By Bill Mann

The first step towards great abs is great abdominal health. In order to achieve the look you want, pay attention to what you are eating. Support the functions of your body by the foods you eat.

One of the many causes of tummy bloat is improper digestion. Many people are so busy that they do not allow time to pay attention to their diet. This means lots of grab-and-go meals that provide little or no dietary support. Not only are these foods generally high calorie and low in nutrition, they contain little fiber. It is hard for the body to digest this stuff, let alone get rid of it.

Eat plenty of fiber. Fiber comes from fruits, vegetables and whole grains. A good rule of thumb to follow is the less processing and packaging, the better. Dark green vegetables and the skins of fruits such as plums, apples and pears provide a good source of fiber. Avoid white and bleached flour baked goods and choose whole grains instead. Whole grain oats, barley, and wheat also support healthy digestion. A sufficient amount of fiber in your diet helps your body cleanse the bowels and maintain a healthy digestive track.

Reduce, but don't eliminate, carbohydrates. Don't cut all carbohydrates out of your diet, but reduce your intake of simply carbohydrates like cookies, candy, and sweet drinks. Be mindful of eating complex carbohydrates and whole grains to balance your digestion and metabolism.

Lessen your fatty foods intake. Not all fat is created equal, but too much of any fat is bad. Saturated fats and partially hydrogenated oils are particularly nasty and create the highest impact. Having some natural oils and fat in your diet is healthy, but make sure you know the source. Read labels!

Another enemy of flatter abs is water retention. This often comes as a result of high sodium intake. Lessen sodium intake by paying attention to the salt you are eating. Sodium doesn't just come from the salt shaker, though. Many prepackaged foods and especially fast food contains high levels of sodium and preservatives. When the body has to process the extra sodium, this causes water retention and bloating.

Also make sure you drink lots of water. Staying fully hydrated aids the digestive process. This ensures that the body makes a quick job of absorbing what it can use and expelling what it does not. Drinking enough water also helps relieve the bloating from excess sodium intake by flushing sodium from the body.

On the issue of liquid intake, quit drinking soda. The calorie free kind won't help you lose weight either. The sugar in a can of regular soda delivers a calorie wallop and can cause weight gain. However, studies have shown that drinking a can of diet soda a day can increase the risk of being overweight by 41%. This won't do any wonders for your midsection.

If you want firm, flat abs, or fitness in any muscle area, you must eat to support muscle development. Without muscle tone, your belly is going to sag and bubble. Amino acids found in protein are essential for building and maintaining muscle health. Health officials recommend women consume 46 grams of protein a day and men 56. Protein in the diet comes from meats, eggs, grains, beans, and dairy products. Lean meats and vegetable proteins are the healthiest choices.

Remember though, eating the right foods only goes so far. Work out your abdominal muscles and get some aerobic activity. A sedentary lifestyle makes it extremely difficult to get the shape you want, no matter what you eat.

Set Your Kids A Good Example When It Comes To Eating Habits!

Set Your Kids A Good Example When It Comes To Eating Habits!
    By Scotie Keithlow

Parents often teach their children poor food habits. For example, during a busy morning, when everyone is running late, there is little time to think about making and eating breakfast, although it is the most important meal of the day. So parents will skip the children's breakfast and tell them to eat well at lunch when they are at school.

When lunchtime arrives, the parent is still not very hungry so he or she will eat a snack bar and a diet soda and go back to work. It may be that the children have done something similar during their lunch period. When it is time to make dinner, the family is rushing around, trying to make sure that everyone gets to practice or completes some chore like picking up the dry cleaning. On the way to an errand, the parent realizes that dinner needs to be prepared. Short on time and energy, the parent decides to stop on the way home for a pizza instead. Or perhaps the family would rather have hamburgers and fries.

While deciding what to have for dinner, the children are getting very hungry. If there is a snack food dispenser nearby, they are likely to load up on soft drinks and candy. After making the final stop to pick up a child from practice or wherever, everyone is in the car and ready to get home. The parent has decided that pizza is the right choice and has already called in an order so that it will be ready for pick up.

Unfortunately, this scenario is typical of the daily food rituals experienced by many families. Most Americans spend their day rushing around with little thought to their nutritional needs. They rely on convenience foods without knowing that these short cuts to meals give exactly the wrong message about food and nutrition to their children.

Everyone reads articles about good nutrition and how it impacts overall health. Everyone has made the connection between eating appropriate foods and living longer and healthier lives. Few people actually take action on the basis of this information, however, and no one thinks about how much of every day goes by without any nutritious food being consumed at all.

As children grow, parents may wonder why they seem pale and less than healthy. Parents must recognize that children live in a stressful environment, one without exercise, and one that imposes unhealthy eating habits.

It is a parental responsibility to ensure that children are taught about good morals, work ethics, and family values. It is also important to teach them the importance of taking care of their health. They cannot have a good quality of life if they are not healthy enough to enjoy it.

    Every Time Your Heart Beats

    Every Time Your Heart Beats
    By Frances Lewis

To really understand nutrition, you must see it from the cellular level. If you eat a piece of pizza every last, little bit of that slice of pizza is used, stored or excreted by your body. Everything you put into your mouth eventually becomes cellular. So in other words, whatever you put into your mouth becomes a part of your body, a piece of you. Whatever you eat either nourishes your body or hinders it!

Think of it like this, every time your heart beats, that beat is delivering nutrition, oxygen (air), or toxins to all of your cells. And what your cells have to work with all depends on what YOU have put in your body for that heartbeat to take to your cells. So ultimately it is up only to you as to whether or not the blocks taken and distributed are nutrients or detriments.

The core value of what you eat determines what your body gets to use. To be healthy, the core value of the building blocks your body has to work with must be good. You cannot build a strong building out of inferior products or the building won't last for long. If you have a foundation that is weak, the building will be weak. If you have a foundation that is strong, but you use only the meanest of materials to build upon that foundation, your building will still be weak. But if you build a strong building upon a strong foundation, then your building will be strong and healthy. The same is true for your body.

But this is still just part of the equation. Your body, unlike a building, is always rebuilding or replacing itself. It is a living machine that replaces many weak or non-working parts on a daily basis. And this they say is the rest of the story...

What kind of a building block do you think the foods your eat make? Take Alcohol for instance. Are the blocks strong or weak? Alcohol breaks down into sugars. Sugars are a weak block. Easily made and easily used up. Fat breaks down into stronger blocks. But the problem with the fat block is that it is so strong that it takes lots of work for your body to break down and use. So it gets stored and your body becomes more obese. Fruits and vegetables also make sugar blocks, but they also make complex strong blocks that don't add as much fat and that are easy for your body to use if the body needs them. Breads and grains also add sugar that is easy to use but also complex proteins that add strength to your building.

So now we get around to the discussion of nutrition. The experts have been telling us for years that we need to eat from the nutrition pyramid. Do you remember that? Just like a building, the pyramid has a strong base, and building blocks that combine in harmony to make a strong structure. It is just that no one has ever explained to us why nutrition is so important. It all has to do with our cells and how our body works.

To help your body be the strongest it can be, thoughtfully consider everything you put into your mouth. Am I eating something that will ultimately be good for my body or something that will contribute to the weakness of my structure? Every time your heart beats are those beats taking the building blocks to your cells that you need to create and maintain your body? It is up to you. Choose wisely.

    Take care and love yourself.
